Finding Yourself

Happy Monday! This post is going to be a little different but I hope you guys like it!

Social media has taken over our lives and whether you notice it or not, it influences us in big ways. I know for me, I’ll spend way too much time on Instagram (don’t we all). And sometimes I get so lost in all these amazing pictures, videos, experiences that I catch myself comparing my life to others’. And honestly, it’s a crappy thing to do so don’t do it (easier said than done, I know, I know). So whether you’re comparing through Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, at work, within your family, your life is going in the direction it’s supposed to go & if you feel like it’s not, then you have the ability to change it.

A couple of things to remember:

  • Whatever is holding you back from being yourself, let it go. I remember after graduating high school, I had to cut ties with a lot of people. And not because I didn’t want to be friends anymore but because they were holding me back from who I wanted to become. And many times it’s not things that hold us back, rather it’s the people we let into our lives. It was hard but it was something I just had to do for myself. And it’s a matter of being honest with the person and saying “hey it’s been fun but bye.” lol But really, being honest worked for me despite the difficult trials it brought.
  • Surround yourself with people that bring out the best in you. This is where you make new friends. We’re meant to grow, change, evolve, whatever you want to call it as we get older. And sometimes we outgrow people and that is OKAY. So for me, I wanted to surround myself with like-minded people, people that understood me, and people that were gonna challenge me. If we continue to surround ourselves with the same people and stay at the same level, how are we ever gonna grow into the people we want to become. Go put yourself out there and get out of your comfort zone. It’s the best thing you can do for yourself.
  •  Learn to love who you are both physically and emotionally. And this is something I’m consistently working on. Some days I feel amazing and other days I’ll feel like horrible. And again, that’s OKAY. Everyone goes through these emotions. But I think it’s so important to love yourself wherever you may be. Everyone deserves to love their bodies and minds and that’s where I think our culture is headed. I pray that society and all of us really see beyond the makeup, the clothes, the looks, everything. We’re so much more than that. And quick little story; ever since I was a little girl, I was labeled as “sensitive” and I absolutely hated it. There’s this stigma where you have to have thick skin or you have to act like you don’t care. And for a really long time, I hated that I was so sensitive. And just recently, I’ve learned to control my emotions while also accepting them because it’s part of me whether I like it or not.

I know this was longer than my usual posts but I hope this inspires you to step outside of your comfort zone and realize your potential, your greatness. Let me know what you guys want to see on the blog next!
