For some, Miami is the dream destination to escape the daily routine. And for others (maybe most of you reading), Miami is a place we’ve grown up in, going to the beach whenever we want.
This post is a little different than all my other posts. As I’m writing this, I’m in Manhattan for an internship (post about that coming soon). And this idea of sharing what it’s been like to live in Miami just kind of popped into my head. I’m at this weird stage in my life where I’ll be graduating soon and I don’t know what I’ll be doing after. But anyways, enough rambling! I want to share a few things about what its been like to live my whole life in Miami. This might be helpful too if you’re thinking about moving to the Magic City.
The driving . . . it’s as bad as they say it is. People (myself included) DO NOT know how to drive. Everyone from Miami will say this. Everyone outside of Miami will say this. Even though I haven’t been driving for a super long time, I’ve seen it ALL. I’ve had someone bump into my car and drive off, I’ve seen people get into arguments in the middle of the road. I’ll never forget this, I’ve seen someone watch porn while they’re driving! It’s insane. Ohh and most Miamians have never heard of a turning signal (my biggest pet peeve! It freaking kills me).
The two biggest L’s are actually H’s: Heat and Humidity. Miami is like this all year round. The only season that’s not that bad is “Winter” (I’m using the term winter really loosely). And those winter temperatures only last in the morning. So I’ll get dressed super cute with a nice sweater and cute booties until 12 PM rolls around and I start to sweat profusely (dress in layers babes).
I will say this though . . . I don’t think there is any other place that is filled with soo many different cultures. Since living here, I’ve met people from Syria, Sweden, Korea, Spain, Belize, all of South America, Central America. And I’m not gonna lie, it’s mostly been through my college experience. But still! The fact that there are so many people here that come from different backgrounds appeals to me so much (is this just me???)
And my definitely favorite thing about growing up here has been the scene! The night scene and the beach scene. The night scene because there’s so much going on in the city. Miami is always developing especially in downtown. Whenever I go, I swear there are new buildings being built every day. It’s insane. The development is vast and there’s this new sense of community and local feel to it that I’d experience before. And there’s nothing that relaxes me more than a day at the beach. I love it.
I can go on and on talking about the things I like and don’t like about Miami. But then this would be a super long post hahahaa. What’s your favorite or maybe your not so favorite thing about Miami? Leave me a comment below.
Brickell Area, Miami
Love you guys!
